Dog Party Raises Funds to Benefit Retired Military Working Dogs

Aug 30, 2023

DOYLESTOWN, PA, August 30, 2023—The U.S. War Dogs Association received an $850 donation from Holiday House Pet Resort & Training Center. The resort held its annual Pup-A-Palooza party in late July. Proceeds generated from the dog daycare event contribute to a prescription program for retired military working dogs.

The daycare dogs enjoyed a unique Key West-inspired beach party with refreshing pools, engaging activities, and tasty gourmet biscuits. Dogs in the daycare Explorer group spent time in the new Canine Sensory Garden. The Explorer group participates in enrichment activities designed to engage the senses. The garden features a variety of pet-safe items for discovery and mental stimulation, including flowers and plants; a scent wall for fresh garden items, essential oils, and treats; a multi-textured walkway; a bridge and tunnel; a dig pit filled with balls; and a water feature. Pet parents joined the beach party in the evening for complimentary mojito mocktails and tours of the sensory garden.

In exchange for the donation to the U.S. War Dogs Association (USWDA), daycare clients had a special Pup-A-Palooza photo of their dog taken. Over the years, Pup-A-Palooza has successfully raised thousands of dollars to support the USWDA Rx Program, which provides free prescriptions for enrolled retired military working dogs (MWDs). Typically, these dogs find forever homes with a former handler or military family, so the program offers valuable savings to the families.

Chris Willingham, president of the U.S. War Dogs Association, said: The government procures and trains military working dogs, who serve with faithfulness and skill, giving the best years of their life to protect our nation’s freedom. But when they retire, they receive no financial support for their care – which is often costly due to their busy careers – and falls to the handlers who adopt them. The U.S. War Dogs Association provides a suite of programs to support MWDs in their well-deserved retirement with full access to the care they need to keep them happy and healthy.

“Our organization relies solely on donations to manage vital services, so fundraisers like this are the lifeblood that keeps our organization going. We currently support over 1,100 retired MWDs through our Rx Program alone which ensures they receive the medications needed monthly. We pay the bill so the handlers and families don’t have to. We can’t thank the team at Holiday House Pet Resort & Training Center enough for their support,” Willingham added.

The dog daycare programs and special events at Holiday House Pet Resort & Training Center support the social, emotional, and physical well-being of the dogs in a loving, safe, and fun-filled environment.
