Playful Fundraisers at Local Pet Resort Benefit U.S. War Dogs Association

Oct 5, 2021

DOYLESTOWN, PA, October 5, 2021—Holiday House Pet Resort & Training Center and Doylestown Veterinary Hospital & Holistic Pet Care donated a total of $2000 to the United States War Dogs Association (USWDA). The money was raised through generous donations from clients of the resort and veterinary hospital whose pets participated in special events held at the resort over the summer.

Professional Santa Charles Gill posed with dogs during PupAPalooza 2021 to help raise money for the U.S. War Dogs Association.

The non-profit organization, headquartered in Burlington, NJ, supports active and retired U.S. military working dogs and handlers across the country. The donation supports the USWDA and its Rx Program which provides free prescriptions for enrolled retired military and working dogsThe retired dogs are frequently adopted by a former handler or a military family. Often the dogs require expensive care and medications, so the program offers a true benefit and savings to adoptive families.

Several fundraising events include Pup-A-Palooza, an annual favorite. The theme was Christmas-In-July with a focus on fun at the ballpark with Santa. For a donation of their choice, dog daycare clients received an official photo of their dog with Santa.

“We’ve been raising funds for the U.S. War Dogs Association for eight years, and this summer was special with two great events for the dogs. We are fortunate to have staff and clients that share our commitment of support for this organization,” said Dr. Laura Weis who owns and operates the resort and Doylestown Veterinary Hospital with her husband, Dr. Randy Weis.

Dog daycare manager Ro Riley scooped frozen treats for the dogs at a recent ice cream social fundraiser to benefit the USWDA.

The Doggie Ice Cream Social, held on September 9, was the final summer fundraising event. The ice cream truck arrived to scoop homemade frozen treats for the dogs. Flavors included Cookies & Cream, featuring crushed chocolate carob cookies in whipped banana, and Blueberry Froyo made with plain yogurt and frozen blueberries.

The USWDA is a group of former and current U.S. military dog handlers and supporting members, with chapters across the United States, committed to promoting the history of the military service dogs, providing programs that support care, and educating the public about the invaluable service of these canines to our country.
